Obituary for Douglas Ronald Herbert Walsh

WALSH, Douglas Ronald Herbert - With the grace and dignity with which he lived his life, Douglas Ronald Herbert Walsh passed away on December 10, 2022. He was 89 years old. Doug was born July 26th, 1933 at 19 Mercia St, Trenton (rumour has it he was born on the kitchen table), to parents Annie and Bert. Doug survived the great depression, having four older sisters, COVID, and the frustrations of being a lifelong Leafs fan. Unfortunately, he could not beat dementia. He will be remembered for his sense of humour, willingness to help, and gratitude for everything. A huge sports fan, Doug loved being sports editor for both the Trentonian and Intelligencer. He made a big switch at the end of his working career when he became the Office Manager for Nomad Sand & Gravel which fulfilled most every boy’s obsession with trucks. Other passions included reading and music. One of his most significant accomplishments in retirement was helping start up the Quinte West Sports Wall of Fame. He was so incredibly proud to be inducted in 2009. A major supporter of our veterans and the less fortunate, Doug rarely missed a Remembrance Day ceremony. For many years, he spent untold hours manning the Salvation Army Christmas kettles. Doug was kind, funny, and faithful to his God, his family, and community… and those Leafs. He will forever be missed by his wife, Margaret, children Kim (Dave), Christopher (Gwen) & Kathleen (Bruce), 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren., his sister Barbara and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is pre-deceased by his parents, and sisters Verna, Margaret and Rhoda. The family would like to thank Tara, Melissa and the rest of the wonderful staff at Trent Valley Lodge for their kindness and compassion during Doug’s brief stay, the staff at Crown Ridge, and Phyllis, who dropped everything to provide support through some very difficult hours. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion’s Poppy Fund,  Alzheimer Society of Canada, or the Salvation Army. Or, if your time permits, visit someone you know who is in a home or shut in. Tell them Doug sent you.
