ROBERT WHITFIELD LOUGH – P.ENG
Of Belleville passed from this life on Sunday January 1st, 2023 to join those who had gone before. Robert was predeceased by parents Stewart and Beatrice of Avonlough Rd. Belleville, and his first wife of 50 years Catharine Jean Lough. Also predeceased by his eldest son Stewart of Marmora. Surviving are sons Roger (Robin) of Belleville and Scott of Kingston. Much loved grandfather of Warren, Thomas, Katelyn, late Alexander, Ryan and Erin and Great Grandchildren Audrey, Adeline and Oliver. Robert was truly blessed with a wonderful partner and loving wife Grace, and the kindness of the Sine and Heasman families for his remaining 9 years – a period of beauty beyond measure.
Bob and Cathy were married in 1963 in Ancaster, ON and shortly thereafter moved to R.R.2 Belleville where they built their first and only home on the back corner of the family farm. A farming background for each played a significant role in their lives together and the early and later lives of their three sons.
Although agriculture was not to be considered a career for Bob and Cathy it would always be their family farm where the whole family learned to work together, think together and experience many of the lessons of life that are so important.
In addition to family enjoyment, the following agricultures did provide food for the table as well as financial returns ; Nutria, Poultry, Registered Shorthorn Cattle, Welsh Ponies, Registered Toggenburg Goats (Royal Winter Fair – Grand Champions Awarded).
Mr. Lough graduated from Queen’s University with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1958. This would be the base for a very challenging life career.
Marketing Manager of Phenolic Resins for waterboard manufacturing for Belleville – based Union Carbide (Bakelite)
Marketing Manager of CAPRAN (Nylon Films) for Allied Chemical, also located in Belleville.
And lastly, Marketing Manager of Resins for Manufacturer of OSB (Oriented Structural Board) for TEMBEC INC. located in Timiskaming, QC.
