Obituary for William Joseph Miramontes

MIRAMONTES, William Joseph "Bill"

May 17th, 1937 - January 26th, 2023

The family of Bill Miramontes sadly announce that he suddenly entered into rest at Belleville General Hospital on Thursday January 26th 2023 at the age of 86. Bill was born in San Mateo, California, the son of the late Joseph and Thelma Miramontes and brother to Shirley and JoAnne. He was the devoted husband of Mireille (Graveline), his high school sweetheart, with whom he shared 67 rewarding and happy years.

Bill attended San Francisco State College earning a degree in English with French and Greek as related subjects. He worked evenings after class and on weekends at United Airlines to fund his education and to provide for his growing household. With his eyes set on a brighter future, Bill moved his young family to Toronto in 1962 where he attended the Ontario College of Education. Earning credentials for secondary classroom instruction in English, Latin, and History, he began fulfilling his dream of teaching with a position at Danforth Technical School. In the summer of 1967 the family relocated to Prince Edward County and Bill commenced his 25 years at P.E.C.I. as an English teacher, eventually retiring as head of the Guidance Department. He was committed to his students and drew great satisfaction from the help and advice he could offer them. Bill was a consummate reader and it was not uncommon to find a book on history, philosophy, religion or literature lying open on the breakfast table after he'd left for work. He was an avid photographer and loved to travel having extensively toured North America and Europe. He also dedicated time during his life to his church, St. Gregory's, the Children's Aid Society of PEC, and the Kiwanis. Most of all, Bill was a family man - husband to his beloved wife Mireille; father and hero to his sons Jean-Jacques, Gilles, and Serge, and to the apple of his eye, his late daughter Monique; proud Poppa to his grandchildren Adam, Marissa, Melanie, Sophie, and Rachel.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Gregory's Church on Thursday February 16th at 11am. A celebration of life service will take place in the spring. If desired, donations to the MS Society of Canada in memory of Bill would be appreciated. Online condolences and to share memories of Bill, please visit: www.rushnellfamilyservices.com.
